CONK TV + High School ERA ShortS

“In High School I managed my school’s broadcasting system called CONK TV. We made episodes that aired to the school every single day with announcements, skits, school information, and more! My senior year we won a Journalism award!”

Here are some of the shorts I made for Conk TV and while in High School!

Class of 2015 Senior Lip Dub

Roles: Co-Director, Editor

One of the biggest videos I made in High School! We made a lip dub to commemorate the Senior Class! It showed at the last assembly before graduation and got a standing ovation of all four classes (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior). It was a wonderful ending to my High School experience!

The Quest for Conk Castle

During this time in highschool I did a lot of learning by imitation. Malea, who stars in this film, and I would watch our favorite movies and try to see if we could recreate the spirit of them. This short is of course inspired by J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. Malea made a lot of the costumes you see in the film!

TOLO: Neon Nights and Black Lights

Continuing with the theme of imitating our favorite films, Malea and I made a short inspired by TRON. This short was to advertise for the schools dance titled TOLO, a dance where girls ask guys. This was the first Conk TV skit to have an original soundtrack and funding from the school. We got like $40 from the school to get reflective tape to make our paper mache Tron Suits. So if you are looking to create frugal Tron suits, just use reflective tape and a ring light. The light will bounce off of the tape and create glowing lines that you can boost in After Effects. This short had the most intensive Visual Effects work of any Conk TV skit. We really wanted to make something feel big in production scale.

Early Garage Tests

Reflective tape + Ring light = Frugal Tron Suit!

Ravens On The Wing

Short film we made for Halloween!

Good Vibes Noir

I got really into studying the visuals of Film Noir detective stories and I wanted to make an advertisement in that style!

The Hunger Games Segment

The theme of that years hypnotist show was Hunger Games. So we did a visual exploration of the Hunger Games!

Detective French Bread

I was really inspired by a British comedy sketch show titled Mitchel + Webb. So we did a direct rip on the structure of their sketch.

Here is the sketch we ripped off.

Conk TV April Fools Day Episode (TOO MANY CONKS)

This episode aired on April Fools day and I think it was the most boundary pushing thing Conk TV had aired. But still within safe School appropriate content. I’m just really proud of the jokes in this one.

There is a part of the episode that was directly inspired by Adult Swim’s Too Many Cooks. Instead it is called “Too Many Conks” as our school mascot was a conqueror.

Here is the original “Too Many Cooks” for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrGrOK8oZG

One of my favorite inside jokes during the “Too Many Conks” segment that may need explaining is this

“KENTWOOD’S New Student”

Who is this mysterious new student you ask?

This footage was actually taken from a school lockdown. There was a traffic incident outside of our school that resulted in a man being handcuffed and he didn’t want to go to jail so he ran into our High School to look for a place to hide. Well someone thought he was a student and he was let into an office. Security later had to go through the footage to trace where he ran only to find him there. This is the footage of him being let into an office. Nothing dangerous happened but it was a funny story.
